Intertwined Improv Flower

In this four part workshop, Jo Avery will be sharing improv piecing techniques to bring abstract flowers to life. These include sewing wonky curves and improv Dresden quarters. We will also be using needle-turn appliqué for trailing leaves and adding EPP flowers. Your block can become a stand alone project or turn multiple blocks into an Intertwined Quilt. Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

Organic Improv Appliqué

Jo will be exploring the use of colour temperatures to achieve contrasts within quilt design. We will be learning how to make a number of simple improv pieced mini blocks using strips, triangles and curves before adding an organic freehand applique overlay, either by hand or machine. Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

Folk Art

Jo will be teaching you the basics of needle turn appliqué as you bring your flowers, leaves and birds to life, including how to create perfect tiny circles and how best to deal with appliqué lettering. We will also be exploring some basic embroidery stitches for creating text and embellishment.

Supernova

Jo will be sharing all the secrets behind her freehand foundation piecing techniques to create not one but three stunning quilts!  For the star themed term Jo has taken inspiration from an image of a supernova, a huge and luminous explosion of a star. Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

Poplars

We will be exploring freehand curve piecing and building up three dimensional layers to achieve a pictorial effect of trees in a landscape. These can be fresh and modern or more subdued depending on your tastes. Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

Keepsake Fabric Book

Jo will be sharing her organic applique with embroidery techniques and different ways to use recycled fabric to make a beautiful fabric scrap book. Combine mindful hand stitching and preserving precious scraps and samples to create your very own keepsake fabric book. Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

The Quilting Masterclasses

In this month's masterclasses, you will have access to different classes from Jo, Karen and Lynne. Karen will be teaching you how to hand quilt your quilts. Lynne will be showing you various straight line quilting designs and Jo will be showing you how to free motion quilt your quilts on your domestic machine.  Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

The Appliqué Masterclasses

This month we have masterclasses in needle turn appliqué from Jo Avery, two methods of reverse appliqué from Karen Lewis, raw edge appliqué from Lynne Goldsworthy who will in addition be showing you her graphic design quilts and talking you through how she made those using raw edge appliqué should you wish to try one of your own! Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

The Binding Masterclasses

In this month's masterclasses, you will have access to different classes from Jo, Karen and Lynne. Karen will be teaching you three ways to face bind your quilts. Lynne will be showing you how to do a speedy double fold machine binding and Jo will be showing you single fold and flange binding.  Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

We will be exploring colour theory and fabric placement with Karen’s needle turn appliqué Floral Dance Mini quilt. In this class Karen will show you techniques to slowly stitch life back into your much loved clothing. We will be looking at adding decorative sashiko stitches and patches of treasured fabric scraps to breathe new life into your worn items and instead of trying to hide the wear and tear we will embrace it. Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

Quilt As You Go Checkerboard Dresden

In this month's workshop you will be organising, choosing and using your scraps, making checkerboard dresden leaves using strip piecing, making one or four larger checkerboard dresden plate blocks, then learning how to put them together using the Quilt As You Go method. Access available for the lifetime of the Academy.

Technicolour Pineapples
