Everything you need to know but were afraid to ask…

  • How long will I be able to view the classes?
    • All classes now come with lifetime access. Lifetime means the lifetime of the Academy (which obviously we will hope continues for years and years to come!).
  • Can I just sign up for a single class?
    • Yes you can but this will only provide access to the pre-recorded video workshop and not to the live zoom sessions or community.
  • I'm not in the UK how can I pay for a class and how do I know how much the classes cost in my local currency?
    • As currencies fluctuate daily we are not able to provide this information at checkout. The best advice is to use a search engine to find out what the amount is in your own currency on that day. We can now offer payment from a range of providers including, PayPal, Apple Pay or with your credit/debit card.
  • I'm interested in buying a class from a previous year, where do I find this?
    • At the top of the Store page you will see two green buttons, one for the 23/24 workshop store and one for the 24/25. Click on these to view our previous year's offerings.

  • Will written class notes/patterns be provided?
    • Yes we will provide these for every workshop even if you only purchase the single class.
  • Will I be able to prepare ahead before the class starts? I like to get going as soon as I can!
    • We will provide a supplies list and sometimes a prep video (if your tutor considers it relevant and necessary) two weeks before the class start date to give you plenty of time to get ready.
  • Do I have to watch the videos at a particular time?
    • No, the videos are pre-recorded and available from the 1st of each month. You can watch them at a time to suit you in your timezone. They will remain available for the lifetime of the Academy.
  • Will your classes be suitable for complete beginners.
    • No, we will not be teaching basic quilting and sewing skills and assume our students will have made at least one quilt previously or know the basics such as using a rotary cutter and how to piece an accurate quarter inch seam. We will be tackling a host of basic quilting subjects in detail in our Masterclasses which will be a huge help to newbie and more experienced quilters alike.
  • I’d like to purchase the full year pass but am worried I might over commit. If I decide it’s too much for me halfway through the year can I cancel and get a partial refund.
    • No unfortunately we will not be offering any refunds. If you think you may struggle to do the whole year then you would be better off signing up for the first term and seeing how things go. Our projects are designed so you can do as much or as little as you can manage, from a small project to a whole quilt, which will hopefully suit everyone’s time management.
  • Will the classes be available on a weekly basis or all at once?
    • Both! The classes are divided into four weekly sections, but they will all ‘drop’ at the same time when the class starts. It’s completely up to you if you work on these in weekly chunks or binge watch the whole thing! We know that you all like to work at your own pace and we hope this will facilitate this.
  • What happens if I miss the live zoom sessions? Can I catch up later?
    • All our Live Zoom sessions will be recorded and uploaded to the website so you can watch them when it suits you.

Taster Weekend FAQs

  • Will the classes be available at particular times or during the whole weekend?
    • The classes are available from 10am BST on the Saturday morning until midnight BST on the Monday night.  Anyone purchasing the annual or Term 1 pass will retain access to the weekend classes.
  • Will there be written instructions available with the Taster Sessions?
    • There will be supplies lists, templates (where appropriate) and class notes for each workshop. Don't forget to download these before you lose access to the classes on Monday night!

Accessing The Community

  • How do I access the Academy?
    • The Community is accessed through your library. It looks just like another lesson. Go to 'My Library' and look for a dark orange rectangle badge called 'The Thread House Academy Community'. Simply click on this and you will enter the community platform.

    • On the main part of the page you will see a 'feed' which is made up of posts from community members, usually with photos of their progress on class projects, or perhaps sharing tips or asking for advice. To include a photo on your post click on the + at the bottom of the post window and a range of options will appear including a photo icon.

    • On the left hand side of the page you will see a choice of 'circles' for your posts.  Most people post in 'Show and Tell' but if you have a particular query for one of your tutors then 'Ask us' is the best place for it. There is also a 'Welcome' circle where you can introduce yourself. We love finding out more about our students so do feel free to share something here!

    • There is also a specific Kajabi Community app available which makes things very easy to use from your phone or tablet. The app is available from all app stores. If you are having any issues or need more instructions then please just email us and we will endeavour to help.
