Free Motion Quilting with

Jo Avery

Jo’s introduction to FMQ was one of the most popular in-person classes that she taught in her Edinburgh studio. She is excited to pass all her knowledge of free-motion quilting on a domestic machine on to you!

We’ll deal with the right accessories, tension issues and matching your foot to hand speed. She will then share a number of design ideas from simple meanders and loops to mussels and spirals. Jo will share her favourite edge-to-edge designs and all her best tips and tricks.

Straight Line Quilting with

Lynne Goldsworthy

Lynne quilts the vast majority of her quilts using some variation of straight line quilting. Be it a wavy line grid, a diagonal cross hatch of straight lines, horizontal lines or matchstick quilting.

We'll talk about basting, marking your quilt top, choice of quilting design, which designs are quick, easy and pretty foolproof, wrestling your quilt through a domestic machine and more.  Tips and tricks galore along the way.

Hand Quilting with

Karen Lewis

In case you hadn't noticed Karen is a huge fan of contemplative slow stitching and finishing her quilts by hand is no exception. She loves to get up close and personal to her finished quilts by hand quilting every stitch mindfully.

Karen will talk about various ways to mark your quilts ready to quilt by hand as well as looking at different designs and thread choices that lend themselves to this method, as well as looking at the hand stitches themselves.
