Hexagon Stars Quilt

The basic design of this quilt goes back to one of the oldest patchwork techniques which so many of us learned us children: English Paper Piecing (EPP).  The hexagon is the perfect shape for EPP as the angles of its corners are nice and gentle and it tesselates perfectly.

Available to buy as a single class from mid June 2025.  Class goes live on 1 July 2025.

Combining FPP and EPP

Both English Paper Piecing and Foundation Paper Piecing are patchwork techniques where we piece onto paper.  In this quilt, Lynne has combined rhe two techniques to create new shapes and designs bringing a new lease of life to one of the most traditional of quilt designs.

Week 1

During week one we will learn to foundation paper piece the framed hexagons which appear in the centre of each of the stars.  Template are provided for this as well as cutting instructions to make the whole process go very quickly!

Week 2

In the second week we will be learning how to foundation paper piece the triangle points around each of the stars - again the templates will be provided for you - both templates for the star points in the centre of the design and those on the sides of the design.

Week 3

In week three we will be learning how to baste the hexagon shapes in the same way as you baste traditional hexagons for English Paper Piecing.

Week 4

In the final week, we will be putting the whole quilt top together including sashing the sides if you decide to make the full sized quilt or simple finishing the edges ready for quilting if you prefer to make a smaller project using the technique and templates.
