Become a fabric architect in Jo's new improv house class

Join Jo to create improv pieced houses and cabins in this fun new workshop. Using improv to piece buildings is a great way to understand patchwork construction and it's also very liberating. We will use fussy cutting to insert interesting details at our windows but with the advantage that using improv piecing means you can adapt the size of the windows to the size of the fabric motif!

Make one cabin for a cushion or make enough for a full sized quilt.

Available to buy as a single class from mid February 2027.  Class goes live on 1 March.

From a simple shed up to an intricate cabin

Starting from a very simple one floor dwelling we will build on our improv piecing techniques to produce a range of different houses as a warm up for the main event.

Jo will show you how to use fussy cutting from your fabrics to insert friendly faces at your windows as we create these three dimensional cabins. You can use these to make a cabin quilt or put all your different sheds, houses and cabins together to make Jo's Improv House quilt (below).

Week 1

We will begin exploring improv house building with a simple shed.

Week 2

We will move on to a two storey house with windows and chimneys and begin our fussy cutting.

Week 3

We will start creating our cabins complete with three dimensional roofs and window frames.

Week 4

We will look at building a cushion, mini quilt or full sized quilt with our different blocks and explore quilting options.
