Stash and Scraps Oh My!

Sewing from our stash doesn’t necessarily mean scrappy. We can go full on lucky dip scrappy with this pattern but we can be selective and find a cohesive look when working with our stash. It’s great to get familiar with our stash and use it to its best potential.

Paper Piecing Perfection!

This three piece English Paper Piecing pattern is perfect for using up scraps. Not only don’t you have to worry about which fabric you pick but you can make this as small or as large as you like depending on how much of your scrap pile you want to bust. If you are new to English Paper Piecing don’t worry as I will be leading you through the basics of this wonderful and very transportable hand sewing technique. We will also be looking at ways you can extend this project by looking at layout and fabric placement.

Week 1

We will be looking at our scraps and talking about how we can use them for this project, looking at how we can highlight certain aspects of the quilt design or go full on scrappy lucky dip! We will also play around with the layout of the paper pieces and plan what fabrics we want to go where.

Week 2

We will start to baste our paper pieces using either glue basting or stitch basting and will chat about the merits of both. We we also chat about ways to organise our basted paper pieces before we start to sew them together.

Week 3

It is going to be full on sewing from here! We will talk about the best ways to construct this quilt and learn different stitches that we can use.

Week 4

Finishing off…hopefully! We will look at removing the papers and getting our piece ready for quilting and trimming. We will discuss different ideas for quilting depending on how small or big you have gone.
