Did you know you can print on fabric at home?!

Many moons ago I had an idea I would like to make a quilt of Penguin Books.  The jacket design is iconic and so simple and graphic.  It was a quilt made for my older sistr and we had so much fun choosing the titles between us - some favourites, some classics and some made up titles. I subsequently made a books quilt for my son and all of the titles related to politics, philosophy and economics as that was what he was studying at university!  And finally I made one for my neice who - aptly - studies English literature.

Available to buy as a single class from mid November 2024.  Class goes live on 1 December.   

What book titles would you choose?

When I made the cushion samples for the Academy, I asked Karen and Jo to choose two favourite books each and those were the titles I put onto the cushions.  What would you have chosen?!  What will you choose?!

Week 1

During week 1 we can choose our book titles and get them and the bird logos and book brand logos printed out onto test sheets of paper. 

Week 2

During week 2 we will prepare the fabrics for printing.  If you are making a whole quilt, and intend to wash the quilt, the fabric needs to be specially prepared.  However, if you're making cushions that are not going to be washed, the process is much quicker and simpler.  

Week 3

Now we can get the logos printed, fused to the backgrounds and stitched in place and each book cover assembled.  Make a few or make a whole quilt's worth!  These book quilts are a fabulous gift for any avid reader as they can be made totally personal to that person's book choices.  

Week 4

Finally we finish and assemble the cushions - and I will also talk you through the process for making the whole quilt if that appeals to you.  Together with a bonus suggestion for making your own quilt labels.
