Stitching by hand...

I absolutely love stitching by hand and creating pieces where I have literally sewn every stitch. Hand piecing is such a mindful technique that you can take and do wherever you please and not be restricted to your sewing room.

Available to buy as a single class from mid August 2024.  Class goes live on 1 September.

No worry about Y seams!

With hand piecing we can forget about the worry of coming across Y seams when piecing together unconventional shapes and enjoy constructing shapes from whole pieces making the design more impactful. Not only is hand piecing a lovely relaxing technique, it also enables us to create some otherwise unobtainable designs.

Week 1

We will start by choosing our fabric and deciding on placement within the star design. We will then get onto cutting and marking our fabric with the use of templates. The prep of hand piecing is the key and once we have done that it is all plain sailing.

Week 2

In Week 2 we will be choosing our thread and learning how to stitch our shapes together. With well prepped pieces this will be a breeze. We will look at the best order to piece each block together.

Week 3

With the first block completed we will decide whether we want to stop at one or continue to sew more to make a quilt. If we are stopping at one we will sash our block ready to turn into a cushion in the final week.

Week 4

In this final week we will turn our sashed block into a cushion cover or finishing off our quilt by quilting and binding.
