Come and learn how to make half square triangles three different ways!

In the first year of our Academy we produced three Masterclasses for our 'extra' month on Appliqué, Quilting and Binding. These proved so popular (and are still available to buy form our store!) that we thought we would include three more essential skillsets to add to your quilting armoury.

We have each selected our favourite approaches for these new subjects, starting with Half Square Triangles, one of the most important and enduring shapes in patchwork. Each tutor will share their wisdom, along with their favourite tips and tricks.

Speedy No Trim HSTs

with Lynne Goldsworthy

Lynne will be showing you how to use her magic paper templates to make HSTs in sets of four or eight to massively speed up your piecing time.  Unlike the traditional methods, this method requires no fiddly trimming at the end of the process - the HSTs come out at exactly the right size every time!

Strip, 4-at-a-time and 8-at-a-time methods with Karen Lewis

Karen will be showing you how to make Half Square Triangles from sewing together strips, as well as the 4-at-a-time and 8-at-a-time methods to create multiple HSTs with the same fabrics.

For the beginners amongst us, Karen will also go over the traditional two at a time method.

Wonky Improv Triangles

with Jo Avery

Regular students will know that Jo actually hates HST. But she does love a wonky triangle so Lynne and Karen have allowed her to shoehorn this technique into the HST Masterclass!  We will be using improv piecing to create wonky stars and explore other ways to achieve improv triangles which are all a lot more fun than traditional HST!
