Dream Bird

with Jo Avery

Learn needle-turn appliqué and embroidery techniques as you stitch this cute fantasy bird. The Red Capped Bobbity is an exclusive design in Jo’s Dream Bird series, created especially for The Thread House. Jo will be demonstrating a number of simple embroidery stitches including fly, satin, chain, running and cross stitch as well as colonial knots. Once finished this can be used as the centre piece to a quilt block, framed as a picture or used as a page in one of Jo’s fabric books. You can also use this motif to decorate clothes or bags such as Karen’s drawstring bag for her taster session.

Screen Printing Drawstring Bucket Bag with Karen Lewis

Along with showing you how to make this useful, customisable drawstring bucket bag for all you notions and projects, Karen will be sharing with you the basics of screen printing with an easy  to do at home method, whereby you can design and print your own fabric to use for your bag. If you don't want to partake in the screen printing element with Karen, how about using your Dream Bird from Jo's class or Lynne's Celtic Knot block or see other suggestions Karen will show you.

Celtic Knot Cushion with Lynne Goldsworthy

In this class we will make bias tape (or buy pre-made if you prefer) and apply it to a background with fabrics added into the background to create a stained glass effect.  The tape will be woven over and under, as is traditional with Celtic Knots, and either machine or hand appliquéd to the background as preferred.  We will then make this into an 18" square finished cushion.  A perfect gift for anyone with Celtic ancestry or connections!
